Compact and customizable 3D dice tower with rotating axis and integrated magnets
Created by a RPG ionate, for tabletop role-playing fans and 3D printing enthusiasts
As a 3D modeler and regular tabletop RPG player, I often found myself frustrated: I couldn’t find a dice tower that checked all the boxes. I wanted something compact, easy to carry, simple to print, durable, and visually pleasing. After many failed searches and a lot of tinkering, I decided to design my own. And today, I’m excited to share it with you!
Two variants with the same compact footprint
1. Rotating Axis Dice Tower – Elegant and technical
This version is based on a rotating axis mechanism. It allows the tower to pivot and automatically lock into position—whether open for play or closed for transport. This system is particularly handy to prevent accidental opening in a bag or storage box.
This model requires a bit more effort to print than the slot-in version, especially structures for the pivots and axes. I personally recommend using organic s to make removal easier and cleaner. Once the parts are printed, assembly is very intuitive: simply slot the tower into the base and insert the two side axles. You can use a drop of glue to secure everything, though most of the time, the precision fit is strong enough on its own.
2. Slot-in Dice Tower – Simple, fast, and -free
This other version was designed to be accessible to everyone, even beginners in 3D printing. It consists of just three parts: the base, the tower, and a customizable front . No s are needed, making the printing process much easier.

Optional magnetic lock – Discreet, but incredibly useful
One of the features I’m most proud of is the integration of invisible magnets. These small flat magnets (10 mm x 10 mm x 1 mm) are inserted directly into the walls of the tower and base during the printing process. Just schedule a pause at the right layer in your slicer before the cavity closes. Then place the magnet inside — no forcing required, everything is designed to fit naturally.
Why use magnets?
They secure the tower inside the base while closed, preventing it from accidentally opening during transport or storage.
It’s simple, subtle, and incredibly effective. These magnets are surprisingly strong in pairs! And don’t worry — they’re easy to find online, especially from well-known marketplaces 😉.
Pro tip for perfectionists: a tiny drop of glue at the bottom of the magnet cavity eliminates all rattling.
Magnet usage is entirely optional. That’s why I offer two file versions for each model: one with magnet slots and one without, so you can tailor the print to your setup.
A design optimised for tabletop RPGs
Ultra-compact format
When playing tabletop games, every inch of table space matters. Between character sheets, maps, dice, pencils, snacks, and minis, it fills up fast! That’s exactly why I wanted this dice tower to be so compact. It fits neatly into any game setup without taking over your space. And since it’s both lightweight and durable, it’s easy to slip into your travel bag.
Smooth rolls, fair outcomes
I’ve included three internal ramps in the tower, carefully angled to provide smooth, realistic, and truly random dice rolls. All standard RPG dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20) are fully compatible.
Noise-reduction tip: if you have a sound-sensitive GM, or just want quieter rolls, add 1 mm adhesive felt to the interior ramps. It softens impacts perfectly (since the sound resonates inside the tower), and significantly reduces noise! These felts are also widely available online from major retailers 😉.
Customizable front plates for every taste
One of the fun parts of this design is the interchangeable front plates. Each one adds character and flair to your tower, and more designs are coming soon! Here are the main ones available:
- Smooth classic: simple and elegant — perfect for clean designs.
- Cutout design: full of small holes that reveal the dice as they tumble — fun and decorative!
- Special Edition D&D: a tribute to our GM. It’s easy to print — one base plate and five color inserts to glue on. The result is stunning.
- Special Edition “Conan – Thulsa Doom Cult”: a ion project, designed by a lifelong fan to honor the cult classic movie. It features the dark and mystical elements of the film’s iconic symbol. Print the base face and three contrasting inserts, then glue them on. It’s easy to make and looks amazing!
- Castle-themed edition: a playful nod to medieval settings. This one’s a favorite for mini painters — ideal for customizing with a little paint.
